The Spinney at Van Dyke features Craftsman-style cottages in a variety of one and two-bedroom floor plans, with single and two-story units available. Residences at The Spinney at Van Dyke have been built to universal design specifications for ease of access at any mobility level, and feature the following amenities:

The Spinney at Van Dyke features a private, natural setting with outstanding active choices, including a pool, on-site walking paths, designated gardening plots for green thumbs, and the close-by Van Dyke Preserve. Running, jogging, biking, skiing and hiking trails abound in the community and surrounding countryside.

Located only minutes away from business, government and area shopping centers, The Spinney at Van Dyke also provides the benefits of easy access to points in the larger Capital District and beyond by the Delmar Bypass or the New York State Thruway. A CDTA “Park and Ride” right around the corner offers the convenience of public transportation, allowing residents to go from a quiet suburban corner to all the major points of the Capital District in about fifteen minutes.

"The word that captures living at The Spinney is "easy". After decades of home ownership, the first big snowstorm of winter left us practically giddy - plowing of driveways and sidewalks right up to our front door swiftly accomplished by friendly maintenance staff. On the couple of occasions we've needed a repair, staff were dispatched within 20 minutes - even after hours. Management is accessible, flexible and responsive. The location is quiet, with no through streets or bustle, yet walking distance from Delmar Town Center (with sidewalks to boot). Ease of access to shopping, doctors and dentists, first-rate library and YMCA contrasts dramatically with our previous home's rural isolation. The Spinney is a genuine neighborhood - folks get to know each other, enjoying ample opportunities to socialize and join in activities at the Clubhouse. Living is easy and we love it."

We look forward to our daily walks with our dog on the trails around the Spinney and the beautiful preserve just down the road. The opportunity to grow flowers on my porch and vegetables in the community garden is wonderful. It is great to get together with neighbors for movies, concerts, food trucks and varied activities. The array of activity choices is so chock full. The community garden, the swimming pools, chair yoga, the gym, billiards, and movies. There is always something on the calendar that catches my interest. And, the clubhouse is only a 3 minute walk away.

I’m happy to call the Spinney home! I’ve been here over 2 years and have enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. It’s been fun participating in the various events like the birthday bashes, holiday parties, bingo, movies, exercise classes just to name a few. I like when we have info sessions on health topics and enjoy when we have an author talk. And having the gym and the pool is definitely a plus along with the gardens. And I’m glad we have an events director who cares so much about the residents and listens to their suggestions. She always goes above and beyond. And the staff has been great. And I appreciate that any maintenance issues that I have had were handled promptly.
I also love the location and the look of the cottages. I’m very happy at the Spinney!

What I like about the Spinney is a quiet walk in the countryside, live concerts at the fireside or from the gazebo on the lawn, numerous games and parties in the clubhouse often with food truck sources - and even piano and bridge lessons and book readings. The Spinney is a welcoming place with friendly neighbors for the 55+ crowd (which is often well over 55).
